Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on 17th Sept every year. Last year I had posted a photo and video feature on Vishwakarma Puja.
Vishwakarma is the Hindu presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects. He is the “Principal Universal Architect”, the architect who fabricated and designed the divine architecture of the Universe at the behest of Brahma, the Lord of Creation. He is regarded as the supreme worker, the very essence of excellence and quality in craftsmanship. Viswakarma is the divine architect of the whole universe. He has four hands, carrying a water-pot, a book, a noose and craftsman’s tools. Vishwakarma is also known as the divine engineer of world. As a mark of reverence he is not only worshiped by the engineering and architectural community but also by all professionals. It is customary for craftsmen to worship their tools in His name.
Being an engineering educational institution, it is celebrated in our college too but only in Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engg. As the event organizer of my department, I and my team of students organized a science exhibition on the occasion of Vishwakarma Puja this year along with the usual Puja. Here is a photo feature of the day :-
It is the rangoli made by girls at the entrance of our department
This is idol of Lord Vishwakarma surrounded by the Puja arrangements
This is the technical rangoli made by girls. You can see inductors, diodes, a transistor, capacitors and resistances in the rangoli.
This is a model made by students to decorate the hall where science exhibition was being held. Following collage is made up of snaps from science exhibition taken by students. Excuse them for poor quality shots
So how is/was Vishwakarma Puja celebrated in your college? Tell me in the comments section!!
Also I would like to convey my best wishes for Navratri to my readers and their families. Enjoy!

Great! The ‘technical Rangoli’ was really innovative!!!
P.S. Vishwakarma is known as ‘Devashilpi’ or ‘The Architect of Gods’… or the ‘divine engineer’ since the Puranic age. He is also said to be the ‘main architect of the universe’ who had fabricated the universe as per the direction of Brahma, the lord of creation.
According to mythology, it is Lord Vishwakarma who made not only the universe but also the earth and heaven. It is said that Vishwakarma also created the weapons used in mythological times like the Vajra made from the bones of Sage Dadhichi… and used by Lord Indra. Lord Vishwakara is considered to be the best worker, the symbol of quality and excellence in craftsmanship.
Mythology describes some of Vishwakarma’s creations in vivid details. They include the mythical town of Dwarka, the capital of Lord Krishna’s kingdom. It is also said that he built the town of Hastinapur, the capital of Pandavas and Kauravas. He also built the town of Indraprastha for the Pandavas. Most important of all creations is Vishwakarma’s ‘Sone ki Lanka’ where the demon king Ravana lived and ruled.
yeah I read all this in Wikipedia
Wow! The technical rangoli was the best!

The rangoli is too cute! But no kites?
oh we didnt fly any kites at college
The technical rangoli was too good.. nice idea, could have been better if each wheel (circle) could rotate. Good to see the students getting involved in all these things, in our college, it was only one paper presentation and that too was hopeless
(i mean for people like me)…
Destination Infinity
rotating rangoli? that would be awesome
yes our students are more involved in extra curricular stuff
Nice rangoli!

To Reema,
First of all its really a nice work done by you on this blog.
Let me tell you that Vishwakarma Puja is not celebrated on 17th Sept every year. Actually Vishwakarma puja is not done in September ever.
It is celebrated by Gujarati Calendar on MAHA SUDH 13 1 day before FUll PURNIMA Occurs .And this MAHA SUDH 13 comes in the end of January or first week of February.
thanks. Here it is celebrated on 17 th sept…every year. Our college, steel plant in my city, etc celebrate it on 17 Sept every year. Maybe it is different in Gujarat. Being different doesnt mean someone is wrong and someone is right.
Ya off course its not the matter of being one is right and other is not.
I just felt to inform how its celebrated in Gujarat by Gujarati’s and being a Gajjar i cant really stop saying this.
