Ghost Story and Bag of Bones

In 25 random things about me post, I mentioned that I have had a ghostly experience once. There was a huge demand by readers to know the  story. So here it goes :-

It was quite late at night and I was sleeping.  Suddenly I felt a chill and woke up. I felt someone’s presence in my room. I was too scared to move or open my eyes fully. With my eyes slightly open, I saw a little girl dancing near my bed. The chill had increased. I closed my eyes promptly and tried to go back to sleep (That is what I do when I am scared at times like a thunderstorm at night or a bad dream). I felt her come near my head and I thanked Mom  in my mind for pestering me to sleep inside the mosquito net. As I felt her coming closer, I tried harder to sleep and next thing I knew it was morning.

~~~~~~~~~~~End of Story~~~~~~~~~~~
Few days later,when I told Mom about this incident, she began lamenting about the bag of human bones and skull (literal not figurative) we have at our home and accused it of being the reason behind misfortune and bad dreams. But I don’t believe in such superstitions. And maybe it was all a very realistic dream.
Bag of bones and skull?? Yes you read it right. An actual bag of human ulna, radius, tibia, femur and the whole paraphernalia.
Now you must be thinking why on earth do we have that at our home? Its certainly not decorative and is absolutely scary and grotesque.
My sister is a doctor and doctors study Anatomy of the Human Body as one of their subjects during M.B.B.S. So like any other medical student, she had bought this skeleton to study. She was unable to get rid of it by giving it to any junior. So she brought it home much to the horror of our Mom.
Once in a while, the contents of the bag used to be basked in the sun on roof  with utmost precaution so that neighbors roaming on their roofs do not mistake us for some occult-black magic- practicing family and helicopters  or aeroplanes flying overhead do not send police squads over to our house. We thought of throwing the bones away but we didn’t want another Nithari Scandal. Now since few years its kept in our store room due to lack of any takers.
Now in the days of Web 2.0, shall I put it up for sale on EBay? Maybe I will make a Facebook group about “How to get rid of a bag of human bones”. 🙂
Asking Dad to bring it down from store room just because “I want to take its picture” amidst vehement protests from my Mom is another story in itself . 🙂
Edited to add :- Sister says “I did not give it away not because i couldn’t find any takers, but because I was very fond of it! I had to guard it well from my greedy juniors, who had all intentions of getting it from me for free. In fact, I took pity on a junior from Andaman, and gave her a few bones and the skull, supposedly for a few weeks. But she refused to return it for almost a year, and when she did, half of the bones were gone, and the skull was cut – I had refused to cut the cap off, as it was such a beautiful whole skull. I used my friends’ cut open skulls for studying the interior.
After my poor bones were lost and cut and mutilated, I was very sad, and moved them to home for safety in future. With time, I moved from place to place, and it was not practical to take the bone set with me, so it stayed home. I have come so far, and have been away from it so long, that now I feel I can give it away. I am still fond of it, but I know when it is time to let go of something. :(”
Yes…there is one odd ball in every family 😀
    its a dream…its a dream…its a dream…its only a dream….
    Reema: 😆 It was bought!! So can’t just return!! I guess as soon as Didi comes back she will take it to her home and do what she pleases with them.
  2. No, no, no! I have been forced out of my “incommunicado” status due to this post. I must set the record straight. I did not give it away not because i couldn’t find any takers, but because I was very fond of it! I had to guard it well from my greedy juniors, who had all intentions of getting it from me for free. In fact, I took pity on a junior from Andaman, and gave her a few bones and the skull, supposedly for a few weeks.     Reema: Sab Moh Maya hai 🙂
  3. OK, Occult-black magic- practicing lady, why don’t you paint this stuff with diff. colors and sell it in the name of Modern Art.
    Muahahahaha :mrgreen: I am FIRST.
    Reema: Wonderful idea but I think my sister may kill me for that.
  4. I know why you had that dream, it is not the bones. It is the Bag. You will need to keep it in a nice clean bag. If you really want to get rid of it, why don’t you go to the Shamshaan and throw it there?
    Reema: Naah!! I just wrote what my mom believes. I don’t think thats true. And most probably that was just a dream. No it belongs to my sister and she will do what she pleases.
  5. Bechara Anshul, comments moderation mein the to soch raha tha he is the first. 🙂
    These bones look sufficiently sexy. 😉 Reema, tumhe bones ki photo lete hue darr to nahi laga. 😛
    Reema: 🙂 naah..nahi laga.
  6. Wow.. that is some story. We get fluroscent plastic skeletons for deco but you have the real johnny.
    Arrange the bones in proper order in a casket, and use it as a diwan in sitting room. If anyone shows any curiosity about whats in the beautiful box, show them.
    Actually – your mom is great to even allow you to store it in the house. 🙂
    Reema: Yes she just mildly protests but basically she is cool!
  7. Reema, I don’t blame your mom. That is scary. Reminds me of the time when someone got real skeleton for a dance function and people realized it only later and freaked out.
    “There is one odd ball in every family”. Ha..ha..ha..a
    Reema: Hehehe
  8. When my sis was in First Year MBBS, exactly like you, she used to keep her bag full of bones near my bed.
    Luckily, I survived the year without any bad dreams (I get nightmares though with or without bones)
    Maybe because my bag was closed. 🙂
    PS : Doctor younger sisters are injurious to health 🙂
    Reema: I m not a medico, my elder sister is!!
  9. God!!! Your sister actually lvoes the bag of bones 😀
    Ghostly experience is very much possible, it is all a matter of belief…with a bag of bone around ur mothers suspicions are justified 🙂
    Reema: I guess every medico has some sort of attachment with their stuff.
  10. Me wants them skulls… Me gonna pay for it if You risk losing a friend and ask money for it.. Me serious. Me really wants them bones.
    Reema: 😆 and what will you do with them? No kinky stuff I hope 😛
  11. OMG!!! I was so damn scared reading the first lines reema… i read it morning as I got up …uh…i am still sweating in damn cold weather! :O
    but then, skulls and bones, i und….my sis is studying medicine too…she keeps telling such stuff…thank god!
    Reema: Really??? I am glad I could write it that well!
  12. I loved reading this! I mean a true story can sometimes be so interesting! It was funny too! I can just imagine the look on your mom’s face when you said you wanted to shoot it!! haha.
    Reema: 😀 😀 My mom must be thinking I have gone crazy to take pics of bones.
  13. Can I have the skull please, a couple of femurs too … Oh What the hell ! Can I have the whole lot? Please, please. I’ll be good and look after them well 😛
    Reema: 😆
  14. Interesting experience you have posted here with a dash of humor to it. It could be quite an ordeal trying to dispose it off. Try returning it to the medical college. Good post – first time here, will visit your other posts shortly!
    Reema: Welcome to my blog! It was bought so can’t just return it to medical college. Didi will do something about them. Thanks. Keep visiting!
  15. Human Bones are generally handed down from Seniors to Juniors
    Maybe black-marketed by undertakers, or maybe obtained from what is left of unclaimed bodies after surgery practicals
    Reema: Yes thats true
  16. Thank god..I dont get that horror dreams. 😀 About the bone set part, even am very fond of it. I have decided that I wont give it my juniors. 😀 It kinda reminds me how I studied anatomy. 😀 I have a complete skull with me.I just love it. Even I used to study the interior of the skull in our college model. 🙂
    Reema: Oh u r a medico!! Nice! I think your are the first medico blogger I know.
  17. Ha ha. The dancing girl dreams? Wow! You are scaring us my dear! I hope I don’t get them after reading this 🙂
    “….Now in the days of Web 2.0, shall I put it up for sale on EBay? Maybe I will make a Facebook group about “How to get rid of a bag of human bones”….” 🙂 Ha Ha
    Reema: 😀 😀
  18. Gossshhh!! Thank God I dont have any one in my house bringing all of these things…I would have freaked..though a part of me would have loveeed to freak my friends out as well…along with some neighbours!! Still got the skull to loan for some days? 😛
    Reema: Its just a half cut skull. Not that scary 😦
    Hahahahha
    Good. Get rid of it before I ever visit your home. Or I will not come. 😀
    Reema: Now I am never going to get rid of it 😛
  21. Ahhhhhhh, how am i missing my bone set and i wish that i could have kept it from my “greedy” juniors…
    Reema: Looks like every medico is attached to their bone set 🙂
  22. Maybe you were just dreaming. But are you sure? 😛
    Even I had such an experience. Maybe I’ll put it up some day…
    Reema: Do share your experience with us.
  23. I would like to clarify that The Bag is dusty, as it is old too, not because the bones are dirty and don’t deserve a good bag. The whole package is a nostalgia package. I would not want to “throw” them, as they are not dirty or ugh or repulsive or scary to me. And I would consider the suggestion of “decent burial”, when I want to bury them. To me they are no different from the Medical Books I studied from, and they are more than books, they are people. And they have lived in “decent conditions” with me since 1993.
    Books can go to raddiwala, these are people who taught me after their death. I dont know who they were, what they did, how they died… Anonymous untold stories…they may have children…
    I dont know…But their bones are with me… their last remains.
    They were people, they walked, talked, worked, lived, died, and in the end they didn’t matter enough to be buried or burnt or be claimed by anyone…instead they were nameless and homeless or just unloved perhaps… Or willingly donated to the Medical College.
    Whatever, they are a symbol of many things, of human thirst and capacity for knowledge, of the cycle of life, the bio-chemico-physical overtones , the spiritual and philosophic undertones, of medicine and healing and the memories of first 2 years at medical college.
    They taught us after they died and as only the medico readers here will understand and agree, they are very cherished and respected by us. They are never a thing of fun or discourtesy for us.
  24. I had a very scary dream last night; in one part of it there was a “bag of bones” dragging (apparently by itself with no one visible pulling it) down hallways, through rooms…after it dragged across the floor, the floor where it had touched caved in, and it moved very fast. There were people in the dream whom would try to “get” the bag, or pick it up, and I would say to them “Don’t touch it!! Don’t you know about the “Bag of Bones”??!! If you touch it you will die – maybe not right away, but you will be cursed and destined to die”. Which is odd anyhow because we will all die some day, but it was very scary and it moved very fast. The bag that it was in was like an onion bag, like mesh or something so you could see all the bones. Any dream interpreters out there?
