Three-In-One Movie Review

At last I got around to watch some movies. Here are the reviews :-

1. Duplicity :- Clive Owen is an ex-MI6 spy and Julia Roberts is an ex-CIA spy, both of whom now work as corporate spies for two business rival companies. One of the companies is about to launch a new product and the rival company is out to get the secret. But the spies are involved in an hot affair. The narration and the music are quite similar to Ocean’s 11/12 and I think the director has tried to make it as slick as Ocean’s 11. But in the end the movie comes out to be all confusing and god-knows-what-is-happening type. The acting is good but the story is scattered and too much twisted. If any of you has seen the movie please explain the ending to me on email 🙂

2. Race to Witch Mountain :- Two kid-aliens with paranormal powers (siblings surprisingly in human form) come to Earth to take some experiment results back to their planet in order to stop their government/forces from invading the Earth. But their task is not so easy. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a cab driver in L.A. who along with an UFO scientist Carla Gugino (of Spy Kids fame) helps the kids in their mission. A typical sci-fi alien movie with age old cheesy dialogues and average acting. The boy Seth tries really hard to behave like an alien with paranormal powers but his acting is hopeless. The girl Sara is better. A Sunday-afternoon-got-nothing-better-to-watch-type of movie.

3. “99” :- Sachin (Kunal Khemu) and Zaramud (Cyrus Broacha who by the way is now equivalent to a baby elephant) are into the “business” of duplicating mobile SIM cards until police comes knocking at their door. They try to escape in a Mercedes Benz unsuccessfully resulting in total crash. They end up working for the owner of the car AGM (Mahesh Manjrekar) who is an underworld don and a bookie. Thus begins the story of these two guys. The movie also stars Soha Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Simone Singh, Vindo Khanna and Amit Mistry. The movie is set in the year 1999 and hence the name. Everything about that time, be it mobile phones or Nokia games or arrival of Internet cafes in India, has been captured wonderfully by the director. The humor is clean and comprises of funny dialogues and one liners. The acting is good, Cyrus is actually funny and above all the execution of the script is very good. Definitely worth watching once.

  1. When i started reading the ‘duplicity’ review I thought seems to be a intelligent film and how I not even heard about it… by the end I got the reason … LOL 😆 99 i cant watch… i cant understand hindi.. so its better to avoid funny movies.. 🙂

  2. Reema

Sorry to read that the remake of the classic Escape To Witch Mountain is such a kitsch fest (although that isn’t surprising). I mentioned the original in my E-list in the films meme. Watch it to see how a perfectly good film can be destroyed by desperate attempts at modernisation.

  3. Man.. u need to watch some better quality movies..
start with star trek, terminator salvation, watchmen, fast and furious, monsters vs aliens, etc. etc.

  4. 99 seems to be interesting, according to the review. But so many movies are being made on gangsters and cinema people that we wish desperately for a different subject – like Chak de or TZP.

    Destination Infinity

don’t go by online reviews by the so called “prolific” critics. Common people are more intelligent, they are sure whether they like a movie or not.. without thinking abt whether it will make money and how was the technical detail in the movie 😛

    so, check imdb

  6. Oh! 😦

Your review is so different from what I read other places!! ’99’ I missed deliberately!!

If you really want to see good action, catch ‘3:10 to Yuma’
Great star cast, amazing narration, great cinematography!! A real Time-Travel!!

    🙂

  7. Cool, looks like I gotta watch 99. and Duplicity sounds like that Hindi movie Corporate where people in the corporate world spy at each other and release stupid soft drinks.

  8. I think 99 will be worth watching.
Baaki, I skipped the other two when they were released here.
And has Star Trek released in India? Its a good masala movie. Worth watching.

  9. Hi Reema dear!!!!!!
Gosh! It’s been a long hiatus for me! And I am glad to know that currently you are on your well deserved summer break 🙂 Enjoy it gal 🙂

Well, I had a great share of my break, and recently watched Night at the Museum 2. It is hilarious! I need some humor in my life now 🙂 And I have a lot of catching up to do on my feed read’s, including your posts 😉

  10. Haven’t watched any and I don’t know when I will be able to catch on some. BTW this weekend I am going for Disney’s Up (3D). That’s my movie list with a 5 year old. 😆

  11. Tum bhi??

After Vee & EISI you are also into a quick movie review…nice ones 🙂

Want to see ’99’ but pata nahin when….I like Brocha a lot, will see it for him…

  12. I haven’t seen those English movies but I was sort of dragged to 99. I didn’t like it much as I didn’t find it funny most of the time. However some of the dialogues and scenes were good, it wasn’t a total loss.

  13. Reema,

being a great fan of both clive owen and Julia, I watched “Duplicity”.. but it will be one of my worst decisions.. if you havent understnad the end of the movie, then so be it.. you didnt miss much!
