Blogging And Me

A blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom. ~Darren Rowse

Well that is a “traditional” and “literal” definition of blogging, isn’t it? My first impression of blog was a web-space where people wrote on various topics and everyone had their own web space to do it. So I guess this definition is better :-

A blog is merely a tool that lets you do anything from change the world to share your shopping list.

When I started blogging, the first thing I knew that I didn’t want to write the minute details of my daily life because I am a secretive person 🙂 Also I was not aiming to change the world with my writings.

One critical consideration when launching a blog is what you are going to call it. ~ Chris Garrett

So, I had decided to write down the thoughts I kept getting in my head when something interesting happened around me. And thus the second thing I did was that I came up with lamest title for my blog. 😀 [I had thought of changing the name but then my readers voted against it so I decided to stick with “My Random Thoughts”.] But my blogging frequency was negligible. After 3 months I decided to pursue blogging actively. I searched blogs on Google Blog search and started following a few Indian blogs. Soon I realised that :-

As I have repeatedly written in one form or other, blogging is not about writing posts. Heck, that’s the least of your challenges. No, blogging is about cultivating a mutually beneficial relationships with an ever-growing online readership, and that’s hard work. ~ Alister Cameron

Also I understood another important requirement for getting an online readership was linking and commenting. In fact that is the heart of blogging according to George Siemens. Soon my blogging journey gained speed and as of today these are my stats :-

163 readers who read my blog via Google Reader.

On my way I have even managed to inspire other people to start blogging! In his Blog Anniversary post, Kanagu wrote :-

Reema: One of the first few blogs, I have visited in blogosphere and I am still grateful of that. She has shown the way of what can be written in a blog. She had the command on whatever she was writing, which I have doubted whether I have at the start. But somehow I shrugged off that initial rustiness to write some meaningful posts. The first one in her blog that impressed me was this one.

Mahmud who calls me his Blogging Guru wrote in one of his comments at my blog :-

Reemapu, you might have marked that I had followed your blogging style madly as newbie… (pardon me for that please :P ) It’s because I was extremely impressed with your blogging style.(still I am, will be for sure… ). I started blogging with ‘Mistylook’ theme when you were using that one ;)

Thank you so much dear Kanagu and Mahmud. You can’t imagine how happy you have made me with such words! This journey would have been impossible without YOU – my reader! As Deeps said in her post “I Am Because You Are”. And also the bloggers who made me blog in the first place. Taking the idea from Kanagu, I would like to mention some of the bloggers who have inspired me when I started my blogging journey.

# Suda -The first blogger I read and now a friend for life 🙂 And the only blogger I have met in real life yet. He has bought a new laptop and blogging was his top priority but he is still invisible. Come Back Stupid!

# Amit, Ishmeet and Ashish – Again bloggers on hiatus. Their blog posts were wonderful, their gang was cool and I loved reading them. Ashish aka The Geek Wrestler or The Emperor has even deleted his blog 😦 And oh! Amit has got engaged! Congrats!

# Nikhil – Once upon a time he used to be the funniest blogger and a good friend. Sadly he talked of deleting his blog

# Sandeep – His blog header was and is the cutest one I have ever seen! Good blogger and awesome photographer! Status? again Dormant!

# Arvind – His blog was my inspiration for blog layout! He is facing a very long writer’s block but can be found on orkut. 🙂

# Poonam – Her blogging style and topics influenced me a lot.

# Nita – She needs no introduction 🙂 When I saw her blog, I thought the quality of my posts must be as such that she starts to read my blog. 😀 I am honored that you read my blog and encourage me so much 🙂

# Sakhi – We started our blogging journey around the same time and she has has been a great support and friend throughout. LOL Dear! 😉

# Nova – She used to have the most beautiful theme and lovely short posts.Thankfully she is back now in blogosphere.

# Vishesh – His commitment and passion for blogging had impressed me very much! 3.5 yrs and 770+ posts!! Blog On Dear!

# Vimal – Not only an awesome blogger but also an awesome friend. Happy Dumbo? 🙂

# Adarsh – One of the oldest bloggers on my roll. Sadly he is also dormant but still comments once in a while. You still read my blog – that makes me happy!

# Dev – Again one of the oldest bloggers and a nice friend. He has converted his blog into a film blog as he is an aspiring film maker.

I met more wonderful bloggers along the way. Destination Infinity had awarded me the Addicting Blog Award.

blog joke

Blogging started as a curiosity, developed as an interesting hobby and now is something I am good at. 🙂 It was never about the money for me and never will be. My blogging frequency has become less, but I hope it doesn’t end up like this even though I do tweet a lot! 😀

Yes, blogging is entertainment. It is performance. Each blog post a show, sometimes an opera, sometimes a 30 second commercial. Like a show, it may start with a bang, lead you along from song to song, have a great climatic moment, then leave the audience wanting more.~ Lorelle Van Fossen

I have been trying to entertain you, my reader, for the past two years and I hope I will continue to do so!! Hope the show goes on and you are there to watch it!!

Happy 2nd Anniversary, My Random Thoughts!!

  1. Oh, congrats on your blogging anniversary… We enjoyed reading your posts. I think I saw your blog last year in the blogging awards conducted by Poonam, and from then on, I have been following this blog. One think I like about your blogging style is the frankness. I also liked your experiences as a lecturer posts. Hope you write more on your experiences as lecturers. As I mentioned in that post, blogging has become an alternate reality for me – a way to escape reality actually!

  2. Heyyy two years ????? Congratssss !!!!

and thanks for the mention too. I would have been more happy if you had put it as “an awesome bugger” instead of “an awesome blogger” 😀 😀 😀 😀

and even you have become a lill dormant these days ! Wake up Reema ! 😉

  3. i started following your blog recently…congratulations on the second anniversary…here’s many many more to come :-)…keep writing! and having fun!

  4. Happy anniversary, Reema!
You have a distinct style of writing and your posts are honest, I love reading your posts. Wish you many such milestones.
    Thanks for the award.

  5. I couldn’t believe my eyes 🙄 Am I seeing my name on the post?? 😀 😀 I am feeling lucky to be a part in your 2nd years anniversary post 🙂 I guess I am honored….

Reema Apu, you might not know that I had very little chances to blog in my life 😛 I was just a reader, only a reader. Once Google brought me your blog by chance for which ‘search’ result I can’t remember right now– I started following your blog for long months– just as a silent reader. While my amazement crossed the highest peak of my feelings, I was inspired and started my own blog to unleash my ‘opinions and expressions’ named “expressionsunbound.wordpress.com” 😛 (Gosh! 😯 it is also following your ‘expressions’!!) I never thought that my existence could ever make me to ‘remember’ to someone like you! 😀 😀

Trust me, I have several friends now, who are following your blog silently, with amazement…. just the way I did at my very beginning… they also like the way you express your ‘random thoughts’….

“Being articulate is being blessed’ ….. I believe.
You can do the job very nicely.. to show the simple incidents, facts from your own vision.. and to make them clear to the readers……

I wish your all the best…
HAPPY 2ND YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF BLOGGING
    😎 😀 🙂 🙂

  6. Congrats Reems on completing 2 years in blogosphere!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I will take this as a moment to tell you that you are one of the most consistent bloggers I have known. People post good posts and then some bad ones… Some add value, some dont. You are one of the few ones who put in an extraordinary amount of effort, every single time. I always love dropping by your website because no post ever leaves me disappointed! Great work Reems! Hoping for many many many many such anniversary posts! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  7. I know! I know! I’m absconding! 😦
There was a time once when i was regular to atleast two dozen blogs. My browser would start off late coz of reloading all the RSS feeds. I was regular at checking my best frnd Pavan’s blog as if it were my own!!
And now… 😦 My blog reminds me of my chatterbox days and sings a song to me – Chalte Chalte, Mera yeh geet yaad rakhna… Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna… Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna…
I still have no guarantee that i will come back to full fledged blogging, but then, my blog wont die.

Coming to the birthday party now! 🙂 Happy birthday “My Random Thoughts.” You had been one of the earliest blogs I’d started to follow (And one of the latest to leave 😦 ) Kudos to ur Brahma – Reemawati!!
The busiest day of my blog saw 217 readers(!) and probably tht is ur lamest traffic 😛 . Congratulating you for all tht u’ve achieved till now, I wish u figure among those bloggers of the world that provoke a mass change in thinking.
    Have a great Blog-a-thon! 🙂

  8. Congratulations Reema !!! And what an interesting post!!
I have been curious about what other bloggers think of blogging too – the statistics are fabulous … I love reading these!

You have 841 tags!! Wow! And 900+ views in a day is awesome!!

Many many more years of fantabulous blogging to you, and thanks for this very interesting post and the Addicting Blogger Award 🙂

  9. Congratulations Reema for your stats! And thanks for mentioning me. You have a unique style of blogging and some of your posts have very good humour too. Also your posts are straight from the heart. You should blog more.
However while commenting is important to increase readership, I do not think this is the main way to get readership. Sure, it helps, but its the posts which help more. I have readers who never ever comment. They often send me emails though.
However commenting and commentators are important for the following reasons (for me)
I like to read what other people are saying and give my own opinion.
I like them to comment on my blog and tell me what they think of my writing
Their comments add value to my post and at times comments are better than my post! 🙂
I like people and like to interact with them.

  10. Congratulations!! That’s a cool milestone to reach! And wishing you many more wonderful milestones.
Thanks for sharing Alister Cameron’s thought!! That’s so very true and apt!! 🙂

  11. happy second anniversary of blogging Reema… 🙂 you are one of the veteran bloggers here… 🙂 🙂 and I love your posts…

but why are you not writing more posts these days… I remember last year at this time.. I have seen posts on alternative days….

  12. badhaaiiyaaannnn…. 🙂 trying my best to polish my hindi…. lol

wow 2 yrs……amazing journey..hope you have any more such glorific events in life..
    enjoy….
    thank you for the award…

    Cheers!

  13. “Dev – Again one of the oldest bloggers”
Why is everybody after my age???? :P. I’m the youngest one around..dont you know that by now?
Btw, thanks for mentioning me. Congratulations on your blogging achievements. You are a very honest & a good blogger and I’m glad to have known you through blogosphere. 🙂

  14. Aap ne bulaya aur ham chale aaye…….. but I am not sure why I got pingback of this post today while you wrote the post 4 days ago!!!! Anyway, I am lucky to have a friend like you and I am lucky to have met a great blogger (there…. I said it finally 😀 😀 )

Talking about priorities, life changes and priorities follow it 😉 (hey, this is better than saying I am too lazy to maintain a blog 😀 )

  17. Pingback: And the award goes to…

  18. Reeeemaaaa, I missed this post somehow! I had such a very busy period.
MY BEST CONGRATS!!! And thank you so much for the award, milady! I have to say in return that you Indian people, ALL of you, have inspired me and encouraged me so much in my blogging. How can I ever forget all of you, my lady from the bangla part of the subcontinent. And you have named people I miss since they have disappeared from the blogosphere.
You all are evidence of the growing brain power of India, the men and the women alike. It suffices to compare the blogs of different countries.
Keep up with the good blogging Reema!

    🙂
