So the much awaited Ram Janmbhoomi Babri Masjid dispute’s verdict came out. I just wanted to share these few lines written by the famous poet Kabir with everyone who comes across my blog.
English Translation:
Where do you search me?
I am with you
Not in pilgrimage, nor in icons
Neither in solitudes
Not in temples, nor in mosques
Neither in Kaba nor in Kailash
I am with you O man
I am with you
Neither in prayers, nor in meditation
Neither in fasting
Nor in yogic exercises
Neither in renunciation
Neither in the vital force nor in the body
Nor even in the ethereal space
Neither in the womb of Nature
Nor in the breath of the breaths
Seek earnestly and discover
In but a moment of search
Says Kabir, Listen with care
Where your faith is, I am there.
*The Kaaba is a cube-shaped building in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and is the most sacred site in Islam. Mount Kailash is a sacred place in four religions: Bön, Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism.
I agree with the sentiment of the poem …. so lovely, so true. I hope things are okay and we move ahead
Kabir said some real wise things!! 🙂
That a profound sentiment you expressed.
Love the line “Where your faith is, I am there.”
I hope many more people keep realising this at some point or the other.
I was deeply impressed by the poem when I first read it!
This poem is so very relevant, isn’t it? I just hope our political class understands this and lets things be..
Political class just misuse the beliefs of people…it is the common people who need to understand the message conveyed by the poem.
Perfect words and meaning…
Yes 🙂
the sentiments are beautiful. thanks for sharing.
I am glad u liked it!
:)))
agrreedd!!
u knw…. apart from some few politicians and some kattar people… we common man are hardly affected by it if it is a ram lala janam bhoomi or majisd that comes up… all are equal and place of worship for us…..
yes I think people have matured and now issues like price rise, education etc are more important agendas for them than religion.
learnt a lot of Kabir ke dohe in school; never took him seriously then ! 😛 😛 😛
😛 😛 bad student!
That was a touching poem Reema… Let us hope that all will perceive religion in its true spirit ,rather than fighting with each other…
yes I hope so too!
My favorite lines and guiding philosophy… Lovely blog header by the way.
thanks 🙂
lovely poem
thanks David
A lovely and touching poem. RESPECT.
🙂
That’s a truly beautiful poem, at the right time. The unfortunate thing about this is, Kabir himself was neither Hindu nor Muslim.. his identity was never certain, so what he said, was applicable to both communities. Very sadly though, neither group (these days) seems to understand/believe in what he has so beautifully said!
wish everyone was as wise as Kabir
beautiful one.. 🙂 thanks for sharing this Reema.. many should read this… 🙂
thanks!
IF Only every Indian could actually understand this 😦 ..
..
I am reading a kabir’s doha after a loong loong time .. you made me nostalgic 🙂
heh heh 🙂
Awesome lines … Used as a lyrics in one of the bollywood songs … where I first came across them …!!!!
really? which song?
Reema, am touched to read those lines. Really happy to see u believe in it. I am quite a fan of Kabir Das. His words are so relevant even in today’s time.
Wish, our so called religious leaders understood this.
Thank u so much for sharing these.
Take care.
