It All Ends Here

No, not the Harry Potter series [which would make a very sad post if I start writing about my feelings when this phenomenon..this era..the magic is coming to an end ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ]

What is coming to an end, hopefully, is my tryst with studies. In spite of my insincerity and lack of concentration, I have managed to come a long way on this path (credit to my sister, my intelligence, memory and luck. Here are some memories from each step of the long ladder I have climbed till now :-

# Kindergarten – “Ye Kahan Aa Gaye Hum”. Called a boy “Motu” and got punished for it.

# Class 1 – Realized the meaning of coming first in tests and exams. God knows how…Started coming first in every unit test, half yearly and yearly exam! At the end came to know that we get prizes for that too! Got my first Russian folktale book. ๐Ÿ™‚

# Class 2 – Got scared like hell when the class teacher came to my house after annual exam ! [ Didi used to scare me saying she will complain my naughtiness at home to my teacher. At school I was like butter won’t melt in my mouth types ๐Ÿ˜€ ] Thankfully she had come to collect my notes as I was her best student ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

# Class 3 – Had a totally crazy woman as the class teacher!

# Class 4 – Got the specs! Sigh ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ First few weeks were really tough with boys teasing and calling me “Chasmish” among other names. Simply out of jealousy. Didi’s encouragement helped me survive that phase.

# Class 5 – Started writing with ink pen!! Messy affair! Scored 100/100 in Social Studies ๐Ÿ˜€

# Class 6 – Learned cycling!! Started realizing I suck at Hindi. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Arch rival came into picture.

# Class 7 – Learned one of the first lessons in life. The population of so called friends dwindled after I came second for the first time. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

# Class 8 – Fell severely ill for the first time. For the first time studied sincerely and seriously as city board exams were there. Came 5th among all schools in hometown and got my first watch as prize. ๐Ÿ™‚

# High school – Chemistry practicals, Biology dissections, long assembly time, new friends, Board exams, Competitive exams, Medical or Engineering, tuitions…

# College – Where do I begin? Hostel life, friends, foes, ragging, funny moments, memorable moments, movies, picnics, late night talks, Maggi, water shortage, food shortage, girl politics, crushes, love stories, gossips, thieves, best friends forever, heart breaks, fights, illness, …it is endless!

# 1st M.E. – Morning classes, rushing to work, being not only the youngest but also the only female in class, first solo viva-voce!

# 2nd M.E – Due to promotion related rules, I had to enroll for a Master’s degree in relevant branch and thus started my 2nd M.E studies, causing some people to be shocked, some to be amazed, some to worry and some to falsely believe Iโ€™m a very studious person. Whereas the joke was on me. The first day in class was a torture! Then as days went by, it became harder as I was working and studying.

Got married last year and yet stayed at hometown till now to complete the degree. Kudos to D for being so understanding and considerate. ๐Ÿ™‚

And now finally, day after tomorrow, my M.E. final thesis viva-voce is due. Phew!!

Wish me luck people!!

p.s. sadly, for further rise in the career have to do PhD too. But I don’t want to study anymore! Booo Hooo! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  1. You are doing a double ME Degree!!??? And you want to do a PHD also??? Baap re… log kya kya karte hain! When I was in my II nd year BE, I failed in a couple of cycle tests and was called by the teacher who asked me one question – ‘How did you pass I st year BE?’ ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜€ I got 45 in at least 6 papers (throughout) and that was the minimum pass mark! The results day used to be high degree suspense but due to the University staff generosity I passed.

At least after this exams come to the real world and enjoy yourselves ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I am in the teaching profession which requires higher and higher qualifications for promotion ๐Ÿ™‚ I am in the real world..only the real world one has to study ๐Ÿ™‚ I am not a bookworm if thats what u meant.

  2. You’ve done so well Reema! And you want to do a PhD? Wow! That’s one thing I doubt I ever could do…I hate research. Don’t mind reading it (kinda have to for the profession) but did not enjoy doing it in my Masters and 4th yr undergrad. I do enjoy learning though…not the way I did back in India (don’t think I learnt much in my 3 years of psych…all that rote learning…waste of time) but the assignments and reports and critical thinking that is involved in it.

  3. I barely managed to do my MBA (Thanks to my good luck) but can not think of studying any more. So kudos to you for reaching here. But PhD? Seriously??

Good luck for the Viva ๐Ÿ™‚

hmmm, loke phd bhoye paye, eh?

Congrats dear- you have come a long way… especially with your history with dolls n kabaddi n vegetable vending… that made ma have her doubts… but I always knew, being the main tutor… and I am sooooooo proud of you. Above all, what makes me the happiest is that you are doing what you love to do- look around yourself, very few people get that in life. Of course, the next best approach to happiness is to love what you do.. but both you and s are blessed to be doing what makes you the happiest. Sorry about the vacation classes where I was one of the students ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. Maybe you can take a break for a while and go for the Ph.d once you feel like studying again. Coz once studies are over, at a certain point you miss it and want to go back to it.

  11. Wow … Quite an awesome journey you see … Topper all the way isn’t it??? … And the college part was awesome … We could write a complete thesis on the same can’t we??? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ …

  15. Way to go,Reema! *pats back encouragingly* I am all for academics. I genuinely toyed with an idea of a Phd myself.. but then decided it will probably be better to do it after a couple of years of work ex.
Bestest of luck for the viva. You’ll do just fine.:)
