Once upon a time, Nita had tagged me to write my take on feminism that is what it means to me. Due to laziness and lack of inspiration, I had not done the tag. But now what would be a better occasion to write the post than International Women’s Day on March 8? Wikipedia defines feminism as the belief that women should have equal political, social, sexual, intellectual and economic rights to men. Before I tell what it signifies for me, I would like to point out one thing regarding feminism. As Nita has rightly said in her post , some women do take feminism to its extreme and fail to realize that they have become misandrists (those who hate men). Similarly there are men who label their acquaintances or colleagues as “feminist” while describing as if it were a bad word!! That is wrong too.
Vee had put up a flower’s picture as a riddle in his post and asked the readers to guess its name. I was lucky and shrewd 😛 enough to guess it and now I have to do the “riddle me this” tag.
But I wasn’t satisfied to put up an image only. I decided to make up a riddle for it. Here goes my riddle and the image. Comments section is open to guesses. The first person who guesses it correctly shall be the winner.
Music is an integral part of Bengali culture. Almost every Bengali girl in Kolkata learns singing. The older generations (and all the Non-Bengali persons I have come across and who were familiar about Bengali culture) actually expect every Bong girl to know how to sing “Robindro Songeet” but all of us DON’T know!! And then we are looked down upon for being “Probashi” (Out of state residents) and for being contrary to Bengali culture. Anyway that is another long story. Let me quote Wikipedia to explain what is Robindra Songeet.
Rabindra Sangeet also known as Tagore Songs in English, is a form of music composed by Rabindranath Tagore who added a new dimension to the musical concept of India in general and Bengal in specific. The Rabindrasangeet, which deal with varied themes are immensely popular and form a foundation for the Bengali ethos that is comparable to, perhaps even greater than, that which Shakespeare has on the English-speaking world. It is said that his songs are the outcome of 500 years of literary & cultural churning that the Bengali community has gone through.
Looks like Vishesh loves to tag me. Sigh! I was tagged to do the Google Image tag. Here are the rules:-
# You are given a set of questions.
# Google the image which best suits the answer and post a picture from first page of image search with minimal explanation.
# After you finish tag 6 other blogger friends and let them know.
1.Your age on your next birthday?
I cropped the pic as I wanted to keep my blog G rated 🙂
Vishesh tagged me to talk with colors. 🙄 And he really wanted me to do the tag!! Though I am a Gemini, I don’t have such a wild imagination needed to do the tag. Anyway I have tried my best with VIBGYOR. Starting the tag from the last one and my favorite color :-
Red :- why do you love me so much when people associate me with danger or anger?
Me – I love you because you are the brightest of all and I love bright things since childhood. I associate you with energy, spirit, power…life!
Its been 4 days since 2009 started and I didn’t get the time to write a post. Lots of things going on at work. Is it a bad omen to start the new year with a tag post? 🙂
Dev has tagged me for A to Z movie tag. The tag asks you to list an alphabetical list of your favorite movies, one for each letter of the alphabet. He has also asked me to write few lines about the movie too. I have already done half the tag in Part 1. Now continuing the tag…..
N – Noises Off. A traveling theater group with both on-stage and off-stage drama and humor. Love the movie for its witty humor, concept and Michael Caine. Christopher Reeves is cute too! A must watch.
An alphabet tag is moving around in the blogosphere. A letter is assigned and one has to write about 10 things one loves that begin with that letter. Now Apar assigned me Q, Vishesh allotted B and Willow tagged me with M. You know from now on once I am tagged for a meme, I will put up a header image declaring “TAGGED FOR XYZ MEME” ..on the lines of shouting “don’t touch me” when someone tries to give you a new pinch. Hope you all know the custom of new pinch 🙂
Few weeks ago, Sulz had asked for help from her readers. She needed topics to blog about and I had suggested that she can write about “Ten good things that you have done in past one year. or maybe ten lessons that you have learned in past one year.” After reading her post I was impressed by my own suggestion and decided to write a post about my lessons. So I have decided to incorporate this tag with a round up of the important events of my life and the lessons I have learned in year 2008.
Lallopallo has tagged me for A to Z movie tag. The tag asks you to list an alphabetical list of your favorite movies, one for each letter of the alphabet. Lallopallo has asked us to write few lines about the movie too. I will try my best. Also I prefer Hollywood more than Bollywood and that too no serious movies for me 🙂
A – Animation movies, all of them. Love them for their wit, emotions, fantasy and total fun.
Ahhh! Finally over. What? My part of the scrutiny as a member of the scrutinizing team of Avant Garde Bloggies Awards. It was wonderful being a part of it as I came across some very good blogs and increased my feed subscription. Meanwhile Manoj and Sharad tagged me to write my six quirks. Hmm.. Dictionary.com says –
Quirk ~ noun
A peculiarity of action, behavior or personality; mannerism.
So here are the six quirks of yours truly:-
1. Whenever I see any cat anywhere, I start meowing and try to call it towards me. It doesn’t matter if anyone is staring at me.
Nita tagged me in her post to publish a candid and not posed photograph which was taken about 10 years ago. This made me rummage through a lot of albums left untouched since years, to dig out such photographs. So here is a slide show of three such snaps at my different ages. Hope its eligible for the tag. First is the photo taken by my sister when I was explaining to her that there had been pumpkins here and there on our roof during the time she was in hostel. Rest are self explanatory snaps. Just move the mouse on the photo to read the caption.
