Candid Camera and Creative Childhood

Nita tagged me in her post to publish a candid and not posed photograph which was taken about 10 years ago. This made me rummage through a lot of albums left untouched since years, to dig out such photographs. So here is a slide show of three such snaps at my different ages. Hope its eligible for the tag. First is the photo taken by my sister when I was explaining to her that there had been pumpkins here and there on our roof during the time she was in hostel. Rest are self explanatory snaps. Just move the mouse on the photo to read the caption.

This tag also made me reminisce about my childhood as I read some old diaries. And now that I have got a blog, I want to share examples of the creative part of my nature with you all. 🙂 I have already posted examples of my hobby of philately in an earlier post. Like most of the kids, I used to draw and paint but only houses or animals or sceneries. Here are some of my drawings. Kindly note the wonderful (read: impossible) circus act the elephant is performing!!

I also used to note down some news from TV and make my sister be the audience while I played the role of a newsreader. I even featured weather map in my news. Ignore my handwriting and spelling. 😛 I still write terrible Hindi.

And then I used to write poems once in blue moon and rhyming scheme mattered the most to me, so I made the lines rhyme in any way possible. After many years I’d written a poem for the tag in this post. Please click on the snaps and enlarge to read the poems.

Finally, I used to make greetings cards for my sister on every occasion..a new month or year or her exams or any festival. Here is an example.

Oh I almost forgot I have to tag 5 people. 😈 Its hard to choose the scapegoats. So I tag Ashish, Vimal, Nikhil, Amit and Harsha to publish a candid (not posed) photo of themselves on their blog.

  1. I loved the photo of you on the terrace even though one cannot see your face. It shows the carefree nature and I hope you are like this now too Reema!
The poems and drawings were so sweet!
The tag did this to me too…I went through a lot of the old albums and brought back many memories. That was why I loved this tag. Because it brought back so many wonderful memories!

Reema: Oh I try to be that carefree but u know the stormy waters calm down over time. 🙂 Thanks! and thank you for such a nice tag. I too liked doing it very much!

  2. Hey, cool tag! You know the brown dining table at which u r sitting while u were caught with a mouthful of cake, we had the exact same one in our previous house, more recently used as a tt table by us…
Lagta hai college mein kaafi dharmik the tum log, there are like 8 pics of various gods up on the wall…
And the poems are great… I mean I’d write worse poems if i tried now.. and u wrote them god knows(u 2) how many years ago…
The cards are really sweet… i used to make them too when i was little, everyone would get a hand made card from me on their bdays… but when we grow up, it seems inappropriate, don’t know why… and we let archies do the talking..
    anyway, great post!!

Reema: Arree nahi yaar! mai aur dharmik? We were 5 roomies so 4 except me were very dharmik. Thats why so many photos. Thanks!! I wrote the poems in class 5-6 I think. Oh u made cards too!! same pinch!! Thanks again!

  3. hey great tag… cool photos.

Sure its great fun to dig out ol photos and laugh out a loud.
Some of my photos look so crazy. I wonder what I was thinking when my dad asked me to smile for the camera. 😀

There is one photo in which my brother and two younger cousins are there, but I am not. That was because I was angry with something and did not pose for the camera. 😀

Reema: Thanks!! DO the tag please!! please!

  4. Oh my god! You’ve had a very interesting childhood! 😀

Reema: Hehe I seem to be a serious person on my blog,no? I was a very naughty child! I’m more calm and mature now but I guess its still there in me

  11. It is amazing you have saved all your art from childhood 🙂 News reader? Weather forecast 🙂 Interesting 😀
    Calvin rocks! 🙂

Reema: Oh my sister has saved all this!! Hail Calvin!

  12. Creative Childhood 🙂

I used to read news in my school. We had to read newsduring our daily morning prayer sessions, I remembering translating news from Hindi newspaper in English and reading them, sometimes due to my pathetic English, they sounded very funny.

Drawings are cute 🙂 Pics are nice. 🙂

    Keep writing poems…

Reema: We too had that practice. I had read it once. Thanks!! Poems…I’ll try!

  13. and you have chosen only the male members from your blogroll as the scapegoats !!!

guess what, most of my snaps in childhood (and even now)would not be candid, thats becuz I dont look good in the candid snaps and I used to tear them off right from childhood.

Its going to be difficult, but lets see. I would have to go to my native for the snaps. So ‘request you to wait till then’ !

Reema: Well I wanna see the guys!! Simple! 😛 Ok take your time but DO IT!

  14. Aha!!!! Fantastic post 🙂

Even I used to do the news reading thing, I to even used to write at the back of the door and play teacher-teacher 😉

You still draw?? I used to sketch till grad. Now to I can’t find time…sigh!!! I had made 25 cards for my parent’s 25th anniversary….

Now to we yearn for few moments for ourselves…

    Lovely & different tag 🙂

Reema: Thanks!! Hey I did that too before I was strictly told by my dad not to deface the doors 😀 Now I only draw diagrams and circuits! 🙂 Wow!! nice idea! Thanks!

  15. Thanks for tagging me! That pumpkin photo is good.:) And even I used to read news at the morning assembly in school. 🙂 And, now I have to find some old photos. Where are my albums???????????? 😐
    Mooooooooommmmm!!!!!
Aur paintings were cool. But you stopped painting later on? Same thing happened to me. 😦

Reema: U r welcome! Thanks! I’m flattered to hear people call them paintings!! I don’t think I was that good. Oh you really “paint” and that too very good. I remember your post. U should take it up again.

  16. hahahah… lol…

I usually hate when the cameramen click or record while we eat during the weddings 😀

BTW, whom were you chasing in that photo while jumping the wall??

Reema: Oh I hate that too! I have written in post that I was explaining to my sister, while sitting on terrace, that where the pumpkins had grown.
